For the past week a bloom has been developing in Discovery Bay
(between Sequim and Port Townsend). On Saturday July 17th I noted a
milky coloration in the waters at the junction between the Strait of
Juan de Fuca and the entrance to Discovery Bay. On Monday, July 19
with a milky substance that appeared to flow out of the river all the
way to the head of the bay, with a distinctly reddish flow of water on
either side. I wasn't able to sample it until Saturday, July 24th.
It has changed to a more uniform yellow coloration, and the water
temperature is ~15 degrees warmer than out in the Strait.

The samples were dominated by the long skinny Prorocentrum graciale
or possibly P. rostratum. There are many other species mixed in,
including something that looks similar to Pyrimamonas, many other
dinoflagellates, and some Heterosigma. There are very few diatoms
present.
