There is a Heterosigma bloom occurring along the east side of Bainbridge
Island and possibly other locations.
Surface counts of 25 x 10^6 c/L in some locations. The weather is clear and
relatively warm.
This is a similar location and timing to the central Puget Sound bloom of
last early August and was not unexpected given the seeding of cysts that
likely occurred after last year's bloom.
If anyone else is sampling or will be sampling in other locations, please
share your results and observations as soon as possible.
The NOAA research facility at Manchester has been advised as well as NOAA
and University researchers in Seattle. An aerial inspection flight will
be performed at 5:30 PM today.
Best regards,
Jack Rensel
