“State of the Waters: Cape Cod” Intern, May through August 2024

The Association to Preserve Cape Cod (APCC) seeks a college- or graduate-level intern to assist with our “State of the Waters: Cape Cod” project. This is a seasonal full-time position that is paid hourly and not eligible for benefits.
Description: In 2018 APCC initiated the State of the Waters: Cape Cod (SOTW) to grade water quality of coastal waters, ponds, and drinking water in order to raise public awareness of water quality issues on Cape Cod, to identify opportunities for water quality improvement and restoration, and to promote action to improve water quality through a Water Action Plan. Responsibilities: The SOTW intern will report to the Director of Science Programs. Tasks include but are not limited to the following:
* Collection and organization of water quality data for coastal embayments, ponds, and public water supplies;
* Data analysis, statistical analysis, scoring and grading of water quality data using existing Microsoft Excel formulas;
* Preparation of GIS summaries of water quality grades using ArcGIS Online (AGOL), in coordination with APCC’s GIS contractor;
* Participation in team meetings; and
* Assisting with other projects as needed.
Minimum Education Requirements: A bachelor’s or master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., water resources, hydrology, limnology, natural resource management, etc.) and experience and skills as described below.
Required Experience, Skills and Abilities:
* Use of Microsoft Excel for water quality data entry, data management, statistical analysis, calculations, and application of formulas, working across multiple datasets;
* Use of GIS, especially ArcGIS Online (AGOL), to map environmental data;
* Use of Microsoft Office 365 and Word;
* Ability to perform work quickly and accurately and to provide deliverables on schedule;
* Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, electronic).
Period of performance: End of May through end of August 2024. The position may be extended if APCC has need.
Location: Due to construction at APCC headquarters, the intern will work remotely offsite on a computer or laptop loaned by APCC.
Working conditions:This is a seasonal full-time position that is paid hourly and not eligible for benefits. The work week is 37.5 hours, Monday through Friday, 8:30 am-4:30 pm.
