[SEMCO] APCC Pond Monitoring Technician

The Association to Preserve Cape Cod (APCC) seeks a Pond Monitoring Technician to conduct pond water quality monitoring as part of APCC’s Regional Pond Monitoring Program funded by the Cape Cod Commission’s Freshwater Initiative. This is a temporary full-time position not to exceed 9 months - March through November. Wages are commensurate with experience.


Responsibilities: The Pond Monitoring Program entails monitoring water quality in 50 ponds at monthly intervals from March through November. The Pond Monitoring Technician will be one of two technicians who will conduct pond monitoring and sampling of water for temperature, dissolved oxygen, pH, water clarity, conductivity/salinity, and lab analysis of nutrients. Together with the Freshwater Science Coordinator, Pond and Cyanobacteria Operations Manager and Senior Pond Monitoring Technician, the Pond Monitoring Technician will organize logistics, mobilization, and demobilization, perform data collection with volunteers, work with partners and contractors; conduct data management and data analysis; and assist in preparation of reports. The candidate must have a reliable vehicle and driver’s license as work involves traveling to and from sampling locations. Mileage will be reimbursed according to APCC policy.


Minimum Requirements: A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g.) water resources, hydrology, limnology, natural resource management, environmental microbiology, etc. and one to 3 years of relevant experience.


Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  *   Field monitoring of water quality, cyanobacteria, or other water-related resources.
  *   Safe handling and use of small boats (e.g., canoe, rowboat) on ponds.
  *   Computer skills and experience with Office 365, Microsoft Excel, and Word.
  *   Data management and data analysis using Excel.
  *   Preparation of reports.
  *   Excellent communication skills (verbal, written).
  *   Ability to work in a timely manner to meet schedules.
