A (sea) star is born: animal development in a changing ocean with Dr. Zak Swartz (Marine Biological Laboratories)

Sea stars and many other marine species develop as embryos and larvae that float in the open ocean until transforming into the animals that we all recognize. We will discuss the fragility, resilience, and adaptability of these processes in the context of an ocean that is becoming warmer from a cellular point of view.



Zak Swartz, PhD, Assistant Scientist, Marine Biological Laboratories, joins us as part of Highfield’s annual Science & Environment Speaker Series highlighting the important work being done by the local scientific and environmental community and making their research and information accessible through informed dialogue.

This year’s theme is Climate Resiliency: Understanding and managing the impact of climate change. Join Zak as he shares his insights on the impact of climate change as it relates to rising ocean temperatures and his research.
