CZM, in collaboration with Goldthwait Reservation, Inc., has put the plan into action at a demonstration site adjacent to Goldthwait Marsh in Marblehead, planting 350 plugs of native grasses and perennials and a dozen shrubs. The area is currently being maintained and monitored to serve as an example of what can successfully be planted in the buffer to help protect salt marshes.

Help Document Coastal Flooding During August King Tides
Anyone can use the MyCoast online platform and free app to share photos and observations of coastal flooding. Reports of flooding during extreme high tides around new and full moons help increase awareness of the most vulnerable areas in our communities and inform coastal management decisions. COASTSWEEP 2024 - Cleanups Start this Month!

COASTSWEEP is part of an international campaign organized by the Ocean Conservancy in Washington, DC, and participants all over the world collect trash and other marine debris and record data to help reduce future marine debris problems. A great way to get involved in COASTSWEEP is to organize a cleanup. All supplies (bags, gloves, data cards, pencils, etc.) are provided free of charge, and cleanups can be scheduled at your convenience. FEMA Flood Mitigation Assistance Swift Current Funding Opportunity - The Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) is seeking applications for this Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) grant opportunity to fund "Individual Flood Mitigation Projects" for Severe Repetitive Loss and Repetitive Loss properties. The federal cost-share for this program is to up to 100%. Coastal Communities can apply for projects on behalf of property owners. Upcoming Grant Opportunity for Cranberry Bog and Coastal Wetlands Restoration - The Massachusetts Division of Ecological Restoration (DER) anticipates the release of a Request for Responses (RFR) later this summer to fund the planning, design, and construction of cranberry bog and coastal wetlands restoration projects. This opportunity will be open to existing DER Priority Projects and other eligible restoration projects, but only Priority Projects can apply for construction funds. Community Grow Grants -The Grassroots Fund is seeking grant applications for environmental projects from community groups who represent a broad range of voices, have some experience implementing local projects, and are not being reached by other funders. Grants of $1,000-4,000 will be awarded. Boston Harbor Islands Cleanup Project-Call for Volunteers - The Center for Coastal Studies, in coordination with DCR, National Parks of Boston, Boston Harbor Now, and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, is seeking up to 50 volunteers to help with an "adventure cleanup" planned for five of the outermost Boston Harbor Islands from September 15-21. Volunteers are asked to participate for two or more days and to be prepared to work on a rugged shoreline. Multi-day volunteers will be hosted by DCR in yurts on Peddocks Island and transported to each targeted island by boat each day. Food will be prepared and provided by professional outdoor chefs. The cleanup is supported by NOAA's Marine Debris Program with funding from the Inflation Reduction Act.
