Native Plant Gardening Day
Controlling Invasives to allow the Natives to Thrive!
Friday, May 5th
9:00AM - Native & Invasive Plant Presentation
10:00AM - 12:30 – Invasives plant removal in the field
Do you like to work in the garden and help native plants thrive? Want to learn about some of the rare native plants and habitats at Waquoit and how we take care of them by managing invasive plants?
Karro Frost, Conservation Botanist with the Massachusetts Natural Heritage and Endangered Species Program will explain the importance of identifying, managing, and removing invasive plants to help support native species and their habitats, such as the Sandplain Gerardia in the grassland here at our headquarters. The Reserve is one of only a few places where these plants exist. Karro will also provide suggestions on what you can do on your own property.
Bring your gardening gloves or use some of ours! After the presentation we will head out in small groups to identity plants in the field and pull invasive plants in the grasslands on our property. No experience necessary, we'll work together.
You are welcome to attend the presentation even if you are unable to join us in the field. We hope to schedule additional workdays throughout the spring.
Light refreshments provided.
