Wrecks of the "Semi-Deep" - an opportunity to connect with ocean scientists and marine archeologists to talk about SHIPWRECKS!

What mysteries lie in the ocean's "mesophotic zone"? Join a team of scientists and engineers in a FREE, 45-minute, interactive discussion to find out more and ask your questions!

The University of Rhode Island's Inner Space Center, is hosting a suite of free, interactive classroom events to connect middle and/or high school students with scientists, engineers, and marine archeologists who recently embarked on an expedition to survey and map a series of shipwrecks in the Gulf of Mexico. Studying these shipwrecks is important for scientists and managers to better understand the Gulf's maritime history and to learn more about the habitat the wrecks now provide.

During these 45-minute, interactive classroom events, teachers and their students will virtually connect with experts from the cruise, learn more about ocean science and exploration technologies, hear from the team about discoveries made, and have the opportunity to ask questions. These events also offer an opportunity to learn about the diversity of careers available in ocean science and exploration and how a variety of skills and interests factor into those careers.

Four, interactive classroom broadcasts are being offered:

  *   Wednesday, November 9, 2022 at 12pm ET/11am CT
  *   Thursday November 10, 2022 at 11am ET/10am CT
  *   Tuesday, November 15, 2022 at 10am ET/9am CT
  *   Wednesday, November 16, 2022 at 12pm ET/11am CT
