***apologies for cross-postings***
The Inner Space Center (ISC) <http://www.innerspacecenter.org/> is pleased
to be offering a variety of ocean science engagement opportunities for
teachers, students, and the general public. Quick program summaries are
below- please click the links for more details. Explore with us!
*Explore with the ISC and GSO as another series of Endeavor
Live! broadcasts kick off in 2022!
The ISC is pleased to be supporting live broadcasts from sea as ten
University of Rhode Island (URI) undergraduate students sail aboard the R/V
* Endeavor* for the research cruise component of a URI Honors course led by
Graduate School of Oceanography (GSO) faculty, Dr. Melissa Omand. The 6-day
research cruise will take place in two expedition legs from *March 24-29,
2022*, and will involve an array of autonomous ocean technology, with
student research focused in two active areas of oceanographic research:
ocean plastics and underwater sound. In addition to these efforts, an
Educational
Passages <https://educationalpassages.org/events/urigso/> uncrewed
miniboat, built by students in the Central Falls, R.I., school district in
partnership with GSO, will also be launched during the first
expedition leg.* Educational
groups and the general public are encouraged to be part of the Endeavor
Live! conversation!* Classrooms, homeschoolers, and other educational
groups are invited to sign up for *free, live, "ship-to-school"
opportunities*, and *public audiences* are invited to participate in *live
events *that will be streamed through various* social media* *channels
*throughout
the duration of the expedition.

*Virtual Professional Development (PD) Opportunity with NOAA Ocean
Exploration *
<https://oceanexplorer.noaa.gov/edu/development/current-pd.html>
Formal and informal educators are invited to join Mystic Aquarium and
NOAA’s Ocean Exploration Education Team for a *FREE 3-part online
professional development (PD) mini-series about deep-sea corals. *The ISC
is pleased to again be collaborating with NOAA Ocean Exploration on these
PD opportunities and supporting virtual programs.
PD participants watch a short video, then participate in a live, 90-minute
online event with a deep-sea corals expert on March 24th. Ask your
questions in real time and learn about resources and activities that can be
transferred into your classrooms and teaching experiences! The online PD
event is then followed by a customized event on April 11th, where the group
will be joined by Mystic's Senior Research Scientist and deep-sea coral
expert, Dr. Peter Auster. Dr. Auster has been studying deep sea ecosystems,
such as those found in the Northeast Canyons and Seamounts Marine National
Monument, for decades. *The first 20 registrants will receive a $75 stipend*
.

*Ocean Science Exploration Camp with the Inner Space Center
<https://innerspacecenter.org/education-outreach/camps/>*
Limited spots remain for the Summer 2022 session of Ocean Science
Exploration Camp with the ISC! During this *week-long, Rhode Island, day
camp* focused on *biological oceanography*, campers will follow the dynamic
ocean food chain and explore the physiology of survival in diverse marine
environments. Throughout the week, campers also tune into live
oceanographic expeditions and are surrounded by video, audio, and other
oceanographic data, experiencing the amazing ocean discoveries that unfold
at the ISC in real time.
