“Protecting Perceived Open Space & Saving Twin Brooks"

Sierra Cape Cod is hosting a virtual discussion with Janet Milkman, executive director of the Barnstable Land Trust (BLT). Her talk will focus on the proposed redevelopment of the Twin Brooks Golf Course in Hyannis and the big-picture challenges associated with protecting Cape Cod’s natural resources while creating workforce housing. Tonight's meeting, open to all, begins at 7 pm on Zoom and will include time for speaker Q&A. 

Janet has been leading efforts to raise awareness of development pressures facing golf courses, athletic fields, cranberry bogs and agricultural lands, and similar areas on Cape Cod that are perceived as open space. Notably, BLT is promoting an alternative approach for developing housing at the site of the current Twin Brooks Golf Course. On March 22, Cape Cod Commission will be hosting a public hearing to review a draft agreement with a developer seeking to build 300-plus units of housing at the Twin Brooks site. Janet’s talk on March 15 will provide an opportunity to learn about this project, alternative approaches, and the larger issues raised. It promises to be a timely presentation and discussion.
