Woods Hole Sea Grant invites MA students in grades K-12 to participate in our Dune Sign Student Art Contest. We will use the artwork from the first place winners in grade divisions K-4, 5-8, and 9-12 on our signs at local Cape and Southeastern MA beaches to educate visitors about coastal dunes, their fragility, and need for protection from foot traffic. Contest rules and details as well as background information to learn more about the importance of coastal dunes can be found on our website<https://seagrant.whoi.edu/dune-art/> as well as attached to this email.

We encourage teachers to use the background material as well as sample classroom lessons<https://seagrant.whoi.edu/dune-art/> on dunes and dune grass to educate their students while encouraging them to turn their knowledge into art. The contest ends March 7th.

Any questions can be directed to Grace Simpkins at gsimpkins at whoi.edu<mailto:gsimpkins at whoi.edu>

P.S. Even if you are not going to submit artwork, please visit our website and vote on your favorite slogan for the sign.

The Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution occupies the ancestral, traditional, and contemporary lands of the Wampanoag Nation. We recognize and honor the many generations of Wôpanâak people who have lived, still live, and thrived in this territory for more than 12,000 years.
