Discover the amazing machines that WHOI scientists use to explore the Arctic and other locations
Open your eyes to the deep and discover the amazing machines that WHOI scientists use to explore the Arctic among other locations. Molly Curran, Engineer in the Applied Ocean Physics and Engineering Department of the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI), designs and operates deep-sea robotic systems including remotely operated vehicles, autonomous vehicles and deep-sea samplers.
She was WHOI’s first pilot for Mesobot, an autonomous robot designed to study the ocean twilight zone. Molly’s favorite place to explore is the Arctic with a unique under-ice vehicle enabling her to access remote areas, some with hydrothermal vents that would otherwise be inaccessible.
