The National Sea Grant Office announces the release of a Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) for the American Lobster Research Program as continues to support research in FY21 to address critical gaps in knowledge about how the American Lobster and its fishery is being impacted by environmental change. It is informed by listening sessions with regional fishing industry stakeholders, state and federal fisheries managers, and university, state and federal fisheries researchers.
Research topics suitable for study on American lobster under this Federal Funding Opportunity (FFO) should have a geographic focus of the Gulf of Maine, Georges Bank and/or southern New England and address one or more of the following: (1) life history parameters, including but not limited to impacts of ocean acidification; (2) distribution and abundance, including but not limited to ecosystem shifts; (3) species interactions; and/or (4) bait alternatives.
Pending appropriation of funds, Sea Grant anticipates awarding between 5-10 research projects totaling between $1 million and $2 million in FY2021. Projects must have a maximum duration of two years.
Proposals are due in Grants.gov on April 20, 2021.
