[SEMCO] Assistant Maritime Camp Director Position

The Young Mariner Program is a new, multidisciplinary course designed to
introduce young people to maritime culture, science, and seamanship in a
hands-on manner. Focused on children entering grades 4-7, this short-day
camp will run from mid-June through August (summer break) and will be
taught onboard Cape Cod Maritime vessels and at the Museum.

Each group of 12 students will attend four, half-day sessions (Monday
through Thursday) designed to provide them with the maritime experiences. The
overarching goal of the Young Mariner Program is to introduce Cape Cod
residents and visitors to the widest possible array of maritime experiences
to instill an appreciation of, and a curiosity about, the maritime world
and its many vocational and avocational benefits and opportunities.

*Work Dates:* Mid-June thru August

*Location:* Hyannis, MA

*Description:  *

To lead, instruct, and supervise campers (grades 3-7) in all areas of
Marine Science and Maritime Curriculum and perform duties that are required
by the Camp Director.  The camp runs out of the Cape Cod Maritime Museum
and has direct access to Lewis Bay and Nantucket Sound.

*Principle Duties: *

•         Ensure and prioritize safety of all campers

•         Teach all components of the STEM-based Marine Science and
Maritime Curriculum (training provided).

•         Lead students in daily program classes and activities

•         Be actively involved in all program activities, leading and
participating in recreational and instructional times as scheduled.

•         Assist with camp organization such as drop off/ pick up procedures

•         Assist with routine clean-up.

•         Set-up and maintenance of site and program areas.

•         Perform direct supervision of children while involved in classes
and activities (on- and off-site).

*Qualifications: *

•         Must have or be pursuing a degree in Marine Science, Biology,
Education, Parks and Recreation, or related field (applies to Juniors,
Seniors, and College Graduates.)

•         Camp or Teaching experience preferred.

•         Must have the patience, understanding, flexibility, and energy to
work with campers and staff.

•         Must demonstrate teaching skills and the ability to implement
creative “hands-on” teaching methods.

•         Must be willing to sacrifice, adapt, and work hard as part of a
team pursuing one common goal and objective.

•         CPR/First Aid Certified or willingness to receive certification
before starting

•         Must be able to provide your own housing

 *Salary: *18.75/hr, 32-36 hours per week
