The Association to Preserve Cape Cod (APCC) released its second annual State of the Waters: Cape Cod report<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__capecodwaters.org_&d=DwMF-g&c=lDF7oMaPKXpkYvev9V-fVahWL0QWnGCCAfCDz1Bns_w&r=i8EJFReSKxYWsYCUlXzioDTze2U_ZOO-JxDyDh2gDck&m=zUm42nioKEpuu5oySp4VAnpxP07qJ0TGSRFVo-6rpls&s=tOr6pCK5Lzw2vCiCPL0NNsXlKBGVAyzrF1CRsXdrNzs&e=>, which shows an increase from last year in the percentage of coastal embayments and ponds with unacceptable water quality, while the quality of the Cape's public drinking water supplies remains excellent. The State of the Waters report is a comprehensive assessment of water quality in the Cape's coastal embayments, freshwater ponds and public water supplies. A predominance of unacceptable water quality grades in the report for coastal embayments and freshwater ponds is a reflection of the impact of excessive nutrients on the Cape's water resources from inadequately treated wastewater, stormwater runoff and fertilizer use. The project was funded by grants from the Massachusetts Environmental Trust<https://www.mass.gov/orgs/massachusetts-environmental-trust>. The Trust provides grants for protects to restore and protect water and aquatic habitat and is supported by the sales of environmental license plates.
