Dear Friend:

Thanksgiving Greetings!

Meet WHOI scientist and acoustic engineer Ying-Tsong “Y.-T.” Lin. This year,
Y.-T. made a historic submersible dive to Challenger Deep—the deepest part of
the ocean—with Caladan Oceanic's Victor Vescovo.

Supporters like YOU helped get him there.

Y.-T. made the trip to decipher how sound propagates in the deep ocean and
marveled at the view outside his porthole. “Looking at the sand waves on the
bottom of the world, thinking how long it took for the weak currents at that
depth to build them up, space and time just collapsed,” he said.

Private support like yours helps maximize unexpected opportunities like this one
and accelerates new knowledge.

On this day of gratitude, we are thankful for your support of WHOI and
scientists like Y.-T.

Sincerely,

All of your friends at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution.

P.S. This is our time to explore the ocean! Inspired to give? Give here
