Hello Ocean Lovers,

OPAK is excited to be bringing back our webinar series. This fall we will
be inviting guests to come speak about some very cool ocean topics.

OPAK has invited Brian Kennedy to come speak about the Final Frontier for
our second session of our Virtual Ocean Cafe Series. Did you know we have
better maps of the Moon, Venus, and Mars than we do many of the marine
protected areas (MPAs) in the United States? These MPAs represent the final
frontier of exploration on earth. Brian will discuss America's deep water
MPAs, the technology we used to explore them, and the strange creatures who
live there. This talk will be held via Zoom on Monday, November 23rd at 7pm
EST! Please visit www.opakedu.org/events to register

Brian RC Kennedy is a marine ecologist in the Rotjan lab at Boston
University. Prior to joining BU, he spent 8 years with the NOAA's Office of
Ocean Exploration and Research. During his tenure with NOAA he served in
numerous roles including but not limited to expedition manager, deputy
program manager, and telepresence coordinator, all associated with the
explorations aboard the NOAA Ship Okeanos Explorer. Brian has led projects
in both the Atlantic and Pacific ocean and has overseen the first deep
submergence work ever conducted in the Phoenix Islands Protected Area and
several US territories. Now at BU, Brian has broad research interest,
including but not limited to deep sea ecology, marine protected areas,
ocean exploration, and the technology to better access and document the
deep ocean.

This series is FREE to the public, but donations to OPAK are encouraged to
help us continue to offer ocean programming and to support our mission of
empowering the next generation of ocean heroes.

We hope to (virtually) see you there,

Jeffrey Morgan
