Dear Ocean Lovers,

Spring and summer are usually OPAK’s busiest times of the year when we get
the opportunity to do what we love most: teach students outside! However,
like everyone impacted by the COVID-19 crisis, we are trying to make the
best of the situation in these difficult times by offering virtual
workshops. In order to keep both our students and staff safe, OPAK will be
moving its July 2020 ocean workshops online. For the time being, we still
hope to run our August programming in person. Details of these workshops
can be found below. Registration is on our website at
www.opakedu.org/summer-2020

*We will have full details out shortly on what a day will look like and
what supplies you will need and where to get them. Tuition will help
continue to pay our staff and rent through the summer. Each day will
include a break from the screen to help refresh everyone’s brains! *

*Intro to Oceanography*
Date(s)/Time(s): July 6th-10th, 10-12:30pm (there will be a break!)
Ages: Students entering Grades 9-12 in the fall. This course will be
limited to 25 students.
Price: $125
Location: Zoom
Have you thought about becoming a marine scientist, but not sure how to get
started? This course is perfect for you! Join OPAK for your crash course in
marine biology, chemistry, geology, physics and policy. Walk away knowing a
ton about the ocean, marine careers and how to be a better advocate for our
waterways. We will focus on a different aspect of marine science each day
and provide follow up experiments, activities and art projects you can do
at home to keep learning about the ocean. To get the most out of this
virtual workshop we will provide you a “shopping list” for supplies that
you will need to follow our virtual lessons. Participants that complete the
virtual course will receive an ocean ambassador certificate and credit
towards a future in-person workshop.

*SeaScapes: A Week of Ocean Art & Music*
Date(s)/Time(s): July 13-17th, 10-12:30pm (there will be a break!)
Ages: Students entering Grades 4-8 in the fall. This course will be limited
to 15 students.
Price: $125
Location: Zoom
Join OPAK for a week while we soak up all the beauty the ocean has to offer
and use it to create SeaScapes and Songs for the Sea. Discover your inner
artist while learning how art and music can advocate for the ocean. In
addition to a week full of art projects and music lessons across numerous
mediums, students will spend time investigating impacts to our oceans and
ways that we can make art more sustainable for future generations. Students
will have the opportunity to write their very own ocean song. Influences
will be drawn from musicians and artists across many genres and
generations. To get the most out of this virtual workshop we will provide
you a “shopping list” for supplies that you will need to follow our virtual
lessons. Participants that complete the virtual course will receive an
ocean ambassador certificate and credit towards a future in-person workshop.
