Ecosystem-based online activities for middle/high school students.

Studying migration is an ideal way to connect the life cycle of an animal and the importance of the environment to these patterns. Such a study leads to questions, many of which are untested, concerning how an ecosystem changes as a result of seasonal migration, overfishing, pollution and climate change.

The continued development of a website (stripedbassmagic.org) provides a platform to present teachers/students with a “menu” of ideas/controversies/lesson plans from which they can chose to study. For example, students who have visited the Marine Biological Laboratory have assisted in tagging striped bass as a way to follow their migration. A lesson plan that allows students to map the routes these fish have taken can be found at: http://www.stripedbassmagic.org/mapping-striped-bass-migration/ <http://www.stripedbassmagic.org/mapping-striped-bass-migration/>
Many other lesson plans written by students and teachers specifically for the stripedbassmagic site can be found at http://www.stripedbassmagic.org/ecosystem-based-lesson-plans-for-this-site/ <http://www.stripedbassmagic.org/ecosystem-based-lesson-plans-for-this-site/>
Other lesson plans found on the web are listed at: http://www.stripedbassmagic.org/ecosystem-based-lesson-plans-from-the-web/ <http://www.stripedbassmagic.org/ecosystem-based-lesson-plans-from-the-web/>
