SEA Semester Introduces New Remote Learning Summer Program for High School Students

Woods Hole, MA — For those high school students who are passionate about the ocean, Sea Education Association has launched an innovative remote learning program called SEA Quest<https://www.sea.edu/high_school_programs/sea-quest>.

SEA Quest is geared toward rising high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors, as well as recent graduates with an interest in ocean science and concerns for critical environmental issues like climate change and ocean plastics.

Students will have the choice of two sessions, or may enroll in both:

Session I - Ocean Biodiversity and Issues of Marine Debris; Monday, July 13 to Friday, July 24.
Session II - Climate Change and the Ocean; Monday, July 27 – Friday, August 7.

SEA Quest promises to be more than an online learning experience. The two summer sessions will be in-depth virtual explorations of critical marine conservation topics coupled with essential training in leadership and scientific skills. Students will learn how to conduct field research in order to better understand the ocean, and to help develop solutions to environmental problems.

Under the direct, interactive tutelage of a professional scientist, a licensed mariner and a marine policy instructor, SEA Quest Explorers will meet professionals from Woods Hole regional research and conservation centers, participate in and contribute to an active learning community that values the ocean, and explore various marine ecosystems through a virtual ocean research cruise.

Centered on learning by doing, SEA Quest is a multidisciplinary experience that welcomes students to work creatively, from home, to approximate participation in coastal ecosystem research and engage in exercises essential to the team effort that is required on any oceanographic expedition.
