Arrowheads and burial grounds - are there underwater archaeological resources near my sampling site?
The Massachusetts Board of Underwater Archaeological Resources (BUAR) is charged with encouraging the discovery and reporting, as well as the preservation and protection, of underwater archaeological resources. Shipwrecks, sunken aircraft, submerged Native American sites and artifacts of human activity are examples of such resources. BUAR’s Director David Robinson will provide watershed groups with information about what field samplers should be on the lookout for, and what to do if archaeological resources are found.
Wed. 6/24 @ 2pm
Emerging contaminants: PFAS
What do sticky-notes, Teflon pans and firefighting foam have in common? They all contain persistent chemicals that can harm human (and aquatic) life. MassBays’ Jill Carr and CZM’s Todd Callaghan will discuss the large group of chemicals known as Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS), and why the demand for their quantification is growing rapidly. Sampling protocols and challenges will be discussed.
Wed. 6/10 @ 2pm - Emerging contaminants: Pharmaceuticals and Personal Care Products
This webinar has already taken place. Find the video recording here<https://youtu.be/Pq1hB7SPuUI>.
Flushed, but not gone: chemicals in our personal care products can end up in aquatic environments, many with unknown effects. MassBays’ Jill Carr and CZM’s Todd Callaghan will provide an overview of Pharmaceuticals and Personal Care Products (PPCP) that may be detectable in our waters, and why we should care. We’ll also take a look at field protocols that are being used to tackle sampling.
