Old Friends in a New World: Early English Settlers' Annual Calendars of New England Fish Arrivals
with Dr. Matthew McKenzie<https://history.uconn.edu/faculty-by-name/matthew-mckenzie/>
Why are we talking about river herring, striped bass and eels on the 400th anniversary year of the Pilgrims' landing in Plymouth? What role did these fish play in early colonial life? What evidence do we have of that? Join Dr. Matthew McKenzie, Professor of History at the University of Connecticut, Avery Point, to learn how migratory fish have supported humans in New England for centuries, and how they continue to be important to humans and wildlife today.
The World Fish Migration Day Lecture Series<https://www.plymouth-ma.gov/marine-and-environmental-affairs/news/seven-part-lecture-series-migratory-fish> is brought to you by the Town of Plymouth Department of Marine and Environmental Affairs in partnership with Woods Hole Sea Grant and the Wildlands Trust<https://wildlandstrust.org/events/world-migratory-fish-day-lecture-1>. The Town of Plymouth will be celebrating its 400th anniversary in 2020 and stream restoration will be a highlight of the celebrations. In recognition of years of effort, the Town of Plymouth was designated the North American Headquarters for World Fish Migration Day 2020.
No registration is necessary. Seating is first come, first serve. Doors open at 6:00 pm.
