Hello Teachers and Educators,
We have a wonderful educational opportunity for your students!
The Marjot Foundation offers grants of $5000 to students wanting to do
an environmental research project.
In these days of social distancing due to the COVID-19 virus, we expect
that many summer camps and sports will be cancelled. This summer is a
perfect time to start a research project, and it can be done in a
student 's own yard or home, nearby lake or beach, etc. The research
typically continues into the school year until a spring science fair
presentation.
Our application deadline is *April 20th* and students may submit their
application online (marjotfoundation.org
<http://marjotfoundation.org/>). It is free and open to students
currently in grades 8-11. The application is very simple and follows the
scientific method - hypothesis (question asked and why), materials
(what do they need to test their idea), methods (where and how do they
plan to conduct their research), and how they plan to analyze their data.
We provide a stipend of $1000 to both the student and mentor, $2500 for
supplies or analyses, and $500 for the science department of the
student's school. In these days when summer jobs are dwindling, it may
be a nice supplement to a student's income, in addition to being an
important addition on a future college application.
The mentor's role will be to ensure that the student stays on track and
offer assistance if the student has a problem. The Marjot Science
Advisory Committee is comprised of scientists and engineers from many
disciplines and they can also assist in problem solving for student
projects. The mentor does not need to be in immediate physical contact
with the student.
/Please check our website and distribute information about this
opportunity to your students asap so they have time to develop an idea. /
Attached is our brochure that describes Marjot Foundation's mission and
the application process.
Thanks for distributing this information and stay well!
