*"[They were] challenged to think independently and creatively, and engaged
in studying an authentic contemporary scientific problem. [It] sharpened
their analytic and laboratory experiment–management skills, and enabled
them to better understand and communicate science concepts and practices."**
YES! We want this! But how do we get there?
The quote is actually regarding what TEACHERS gained from participating in
summer RET's which later showed a significant increase in their students'
knowledge and abilities.*
On *Wednesday, Oct 2, 3:30-4:30* we will present the first outreach webinar
of the fall, sharing and discussing what can be gained from doing "science
alongside scientists".
Fairhaven HS veteran science teacher, David Welty PhD, will share about his
RET (research experience for teachers) at sea with NES-LTER
<http://nes-lter.whoi.edu/> scientists on the summer transect cruise in
August. We will follow up with a discussion about other opportunities
available to teachers and students which can bring them closer to "real
science".
The webinar is free to all participants and will be recorded and shared
with all who indicated their interest by registering using the button
below.
(Your registration information will only be used to notify you of further
NES-LTER opportunities.)
