SATURDAY MORNING NATURE PROGRAMS FOR ADULTS

Each month through all seasons, the Thornton Burgess Nature Program for
adults has been offered through the Green Briar Nature Center in East
Sandwich. On Saturday, November 2 from 10am to noon Cape Cod Naturalist Tom
Walker leads a program on Lichens, a unique pairing of fungi and algae found
everywhere around us. Learn about the life history of lichens, how to
distinguish common species from each other and how they fit into the larger
ecosystem. The first part of the class is spent inside reviewing the basics
of lichen identification and biology before venturing out to explore the
various lichen species present on Green Briar grounds. The fee is $20, and
registration is required online at <http://www.thorntonburgess.org>
www.thorntonburgess.org.

This year's program concludes on Saturday, December 7 from 10am to noon with
Winter Birding led by Environmental Scientist Brittany Hoffnagle with her
extensive birding experience. With the changing of the season, there is a
changing of the birds present in our area as well. Enjoy a bird walk along
the Cape Cod Canal focusing on where the migrant visitors spend their
winter, and observe birds we only get to enjoy during the colder months on
Cape Cod. Participants will meet in front of the Army Corps of Engineers
Cape Cod Canal Visitor Center near the Sandwich Marina. The fee is $20,
and registration is required online at <http://www.thorntonburgess.org>
