The second film of the 2019 Sea Change environmental film series, co-sponsored by Mass Audubon's Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary, the Wellfleet Harbor Actors Theater, and WCAI, resumes this Saturday, March 16 from 7-8:30 PM with a look at the decline in one of the region's most delectable wild shellfish.
The Last Bay Scallop? is a portrait of Nantucket's struggling commercial bay scallop fishery, the people who continue to work it, and the efforts to save it. WCAI's Mindy Todd will lead a post-film discussion with Nantucket filmmaker John Stanton, shellfish biologist Sandy Macfarlane, and local fishermen Ernie Eldridge, Chris Viprino, and William "Chopper" Young, Jr. about what has nearly wiped out Cape Cod's bay scallop fishery and whether anything can be done to rebuild it.
The film will be screened at the Wellfleet Harbor Actors Theater on Route 6 in South Wellfleet. Tickets are $12 per person and may be reserved online at what.org or by calling the WHAT box office at 508-349-9428. For more information, go to www.massaudubon.org/wellfleetbay.
