News release

The next Cape Cod Bird Club Meeting is September 9th at 7pm at the Cape Cod Museum of Natural History, 869 Route 6A, Brewster, MAThe speaker David Larson from Mass Audubon will talk about "Mongolia--Wildlife and Wild Spaces"Mongolia contains limitless vistas of mountains, steppes, and deserts, all of which provide habitat for countless strange and wonderful animals and plants...where all the major ecosystems found in Central Asia are encompassed; and the Gobi desert, parts of which are home to the region's rarest endemic species and were few...have ventured.
The following Bird Walks are free and open to the public.  Heavy or steady rain typically cancels the walk.  To participate, please call or e-mail the walk leader prior to the walk.  For the latest updates, always check our website  www.capecodbirdclub.org

Meetat the West Dennis Beach parking lot as far along towards thebreakwater and Bass River as you are permitted to drive.  Wewill look for lingering summer-breeding endangered Piping Plovers andLeast Terns as well as resident and migrating shorebirds.





 Sandpipersand Suds – Ellisville State Park, Plymouth

Crossthe Sagamore Bridge, drive north on Route 3A for 5.3 miles, and joinus for late afternoon shorebirding at Ellisville Marsh, where themigration show has been getting better every year. Meet at EllisvilleState Park.  After shorebirding, feel free to join your leaderfor dinner and friendship at the British Beer Company nearby inEllisville.

 

FrancesCrane Wildlife Management Area—N. Falmouth

Thisis for beginning and intermediate bird photographers. Bring yourCamera and join Ron during the golden hour in search of meadowlarks,sparrows, thrushes, buntings, etc. (Sunrise is at 5:55.)

Meetin the main parking area on the north side of Rt 151. You will pass aball field on your right. If you contact Ron by email , he will sendyou guidance on the camera settings he uses (by Prathap DK). At 8 amwe will join Keelin Miller and Peter Fang on their walk at theparking area.

 

CraneWildlife Management Area – Falmouth

Avoidthe crowds down in Woods Hole and Falmouth Heights for the FalmouthRoad Race by joining our bird walk on the north side of Falmouth atCrane WMA. Meet in the main parking lot on Route 151 in Falmouth(near the model airplane field). We will walk around the newlyrestored grasslands in search of sparrows, thrushes, buntings, andraptors. We might even be lucky enough to glimpse a bobwhite,bobolink, or a blue grosbeak!

 

Fallmigration at Sandy Neck

Meetat the hikers’ parking lot near the gatehouse at Sandy Neck BeachPark. We will walk a loop along the Marsh Trail, through thedunes, and back along the beach, looking for migrating shorebirds,songbirds, and terns.  Depending on the weather, we might gettreated to some pelagic species!  Expect about 1.5 miles ofwalking in soft sand.

Meetin the main parking lot for Mass Audubon‘s Long Pasture wildlifesanctuary near the end of Bone Hill Road.  We will bird a bitaround the sanctuary grounds and then head down to Barnstable Harborfor shorebirds and terns at low tide.

 

RacePoint Beach, Provincetown

Meetat the Race Point Beach parking lot. We will search for four speciesof shearwaters, storm-petrels, post-breeding staging Common andRoseate Terns, jaegers, shorebirds, and perhaps some marine mammalsincluding whales and seals. Be prepared to do some light walking insoft sand up to 2 miles. Bring drinking water and a light snack.

 

ScussetBeach State Park – Sagamore
