Over 25 acres of land preserved! For Immediate Release January 29, 2019 Orenda Wildlife Land Trust Adds Nearly 25 Acres to Portfolio (Barnstable, Cape Cod, Massachusetts)—Orenda Wildlife Land Trust has added nearly 30 acres to its portfolio across four sites in southeastern Massachusetts: In Plympton, a 19-acre site of wooded uplands and marsh at the head of the Jones River Brook, an important watershed; In West Barnstable along 6A, a 5-acre mix of wooded uplands with a red cedar grove, and a maple swamp with cattails; In Cotuit, a half-acre undeveloped lot that abuts a wetland in the middle of a developed neighborhood; In West Barnstable, a nearly one-acre site that’s located next to two existing Orenda sanctuaries. These land donation deals were brokered by Mark Robinson, executive director of The Compact of Cape Cod Conservation Trusts, Inc. Robinson says “The best way to keep our waters clean is to protect the land surrounding it from being spoiled. Some of our most important wildlife habitats include the sensitive edge between upland forest and wetlands, where birds and animals have a mix of places to feed, nest and take cover in.” Founded in 1986, Orenda Wildlife Land Trust’s mission is to preserve and protect open space for wildlife habitat, clean water and fresh air. We do this through innovative public education programs, public policy forums, and advocacy. Orenda owns or manages over 350 acres across 25 sanctuaries throughout Massachusetts. Orenda means “protected place” in the language of indigenous peoples.
