Polar Earth: Portraits of a Vanishing World
Photographs by John and Pam King
BREWSTER, MA — Naturescape Gallery at the Cape Cod Museum of Natural History is proud to present “Polar Earth: Portraits of a Vanishing World” photographs by John and Pam King May 1 – June 30, 2019. *
Our Earth’s climate is warming at an alarming pace. These changes are forever altering the habitats of wildlife that have lived in the polar regions for hundreds of thousands of years. In recent years we were privileged to journey deep into remote polar regions of the Arctic and as well as the Southern Ocean regions of the Antarctic to witness the changes underway. This exhibition of intimate images takes a closer look at how the amazing creatures that survive are now faring in their rapidly changing environments. ~John & Pam King
John is a conservationist and world traveler, with strong ties to Cape Cod that span many generations. After finishing college, John spent more than 7 years working as a commercial fisherman in Alaska and became a licensed ship's Master at the age of 27. In more recent years, John together with his wife Pam, have been pursuing a lifelong passion to experience and record the earth’s wild places and wild things through their photography. Locally, John is the owner/skipper of the research vessel Aleutian Dream which is conducting the white shark research currently being conducted by scientists supported by the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy in outer Cape waters. John is also a co-founder together with Pam, of The Common Flat Project, a conservation organization dedicated to creating awareness of the importance of earth’s biodiversity especially on Cape Cod. Their first book entitled: Wild Cape Cod, Free by Nature was published by Schiffer Publishing in 2012. Their photography and travel blog can be viewed at www.wildcapecod.com.
