THE FOCUS IS ON INSECTS IN WINTER

On the first Saturday of each month since this past May the Thornton W.
Burgess Society, along with the Cape Cod Museum of Natural History, has
offered a program for adults exploring a seasonal natural history topic with
a local naturalist/citizen scientist. On Saturday, November 3 from 9am to
noon "Insects in Winter" will be led by research entomologist Hannah Nadel,
who has led several nature walks in the U.S. and Canada and has yet to meet
an insect she doesn't like. Participants will gather at Talbot's Point in
East Sandwich and walk slowly through mixed woodland to find insects and
their galleries, galls and pupal chambers in plants, leaf litter, soil and
other feeding and hiding places. Hand lens or binoculars are encouraged for
exploring this miniature world. This program is open to adults and teens
ages 16 and up. Fee is $30, and advance registration is required by calling
508-888-6870. "Migrant Winter Birds" with Gretchen Moran Towers will be the
topic on December 1st.
