Oceanography Professor Chuck Lea To Look Back
on Three Decades at SEA in Free Public Lecture
Sea Education Association (SEA) will host a public lecture, “The (Not so) Old Man and the SEA” on Sunday, Oct. 14, at 2 pm.. Charles (Chuck) Lea, retiring Professor of Oceanography, will deliver the lecture, the first of SEA’s Fall Lecture Series. The lecture will be held at James L. Madden Center Lecture Hall, Sea Education Association, 171 Woods Hole Road, Falmouth. It is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.
About the Lecture
He’s spent a combined total of more than seven years at sea on SEA tall ships and more than 25 in the same office! From 1984 to 2018, Chuck Lea, a long-time SEA Semester Professor of Oceanography has seen it all. Chuck will share observations – and a few sea stories (!) - collected over more than three decades sailing the high seas with SEA Semester students.
Take a nostalgic journey to Chuck’s early days at SEA, and see how the organization has evolved over the years. Changes in the boats, science equipment, the people, the program will be examined. Everything from how climate change influences what we teach to documentation of what his office looked like before he trashed it will be presented. Accompanied by many old photos taken over the years, this promises to be a highly entertaining and informative lecture.
