ADULT NATURE CLUB EXPLORES TIDAL POOLS

The monthly in-depth natural history course for adults offered by the
Thornton W. Burgess Society continues on the first Saturday of each month
meeting from 9am to noon. This program explores a wide range of natural
history topics with a different focus each month. The only requirement is a
curiosity for the natural world. On August 4 join Elise Leduc, a Coastal
Scientist at the Woods Hole Group, on a "Beach Walk" exploring Sandwich Town
Neck Beach at low tide. Examine the rocky intertidal shore and the tide
pools that form. Search for various invertebrates, such as crabs, mollusks
and echinoderms. Also examine the wrack line for interesting marine
biofacts, as well as discuss the impact of beach dynamics and coastal
processes, and various management actions coastal municipalities can take to
preserve and restore natural habitats. Following months include "Birding"
at the East Sandwich Game Farm on September 8; "Wild Food" focusing on
foraging basics on October 6; "Insects in Winter" on November 3; "Migrant
Winter Birds" on December 1. These programs are open to adults and teens
ages 16 and up. Call 508-888-6870 to register separately for each month at
$30.
