Hello,

The Department of Conservation & Recreation is seeking applications for a seasonal Park Interpreter position at the Waquoit Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve (WBNERR). I'm reaching out to the local community to help spread the word; please forward to anyone who may be interested.

The Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) is a major steward of the Commonwealth's natural and cultural resources. DCR's mission is to protect, preserve, and promote our common wealth of natural, cultural, and recreational resources for the well-being of all.

LOCATION:
WBNERR is located on the south shore of Cape Cod. Washburn Island, South Cape Beach State Park, Reserve Headquarters and the Quashnet River Corridor are components of the Reserve which include trails through or near marshes, beaches, rivers and woodlands.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Park Interpreters perform interpretive, educational and administrative tasks in the delivery of visitor services and resource interpretation.  Tasks include: providing visitor information and orientation; staffing the Visitor Center; researching, developing and presenting interpretive programs that reflect the natural and cultural stories of the park; outreach to the local community and park users; assisting with special events and programs independently or in partnership with other public or private organizations; delivering a robust calendar of events that includes regularly scheduled programs; incorporating the reserve's research into the programming.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Applicants must be at least eighteen years old, possess a basic knowledge of natural and cultural history, have experience working with the public, possess solid communications skills, have the ability to follow oral and written instructions, and the ability to work in a team setting.  Current valid driver's license and reliable transportation required.

EMPLOYMENT INFORMATION:
This position begins April 8, 2018 and ends September 7, 2018.  Park Interpreters work a 40-hour week (which includes weekends, holidays, and possibly evenings).  The pay rate is $15.16/hour.  Employees are paid bi-weekly.  Benefits are available for long-term positions.  Uniforms and training are provided.  Park housing is not provided.
