The Center for Coastal Studies has a position available in the Water
Quality Monitoring Program for a Laboratory Technician.  The Laboratory
Technician supports the Water Quality Monitoring Program by performing
chemical laboratory analysis on water samples. Primary duties include the
analysis of marine and fresh water samples for nutrients, running and
maintaining the laboratory instrumentation necessary to do the analyses
(Astoria and LaChat auto-analyzers, CE Elantech elemental analyzer) and
other duties associated with maintenance of the laboratory work area.  This
position requires an individual to have a Bachelor’s degree in Biology,
Chemistry, Environmental Science or related field and two years’ experience
as a Laboratory Assistant. Applicants must be meticulous, have good written
and oral communication skills, and above average problem solving abilities.

Applicants must be able to perform the following duties:

   - Perform chemical water analyses using methods and procedures approved
   by the EPA.


   - Adhere to quality assurance procedures by Mass DEP, EPA, and other
   regulatory agencies for sample collection, data quality and laboratory
   instruments. Maintain the QA database and participates in proficiency
   evaluations and inspections.


   - Performs all duties in a manner consistent with company safety
   procedures for analytical laboratories.

Requirements:

   - Two years’ experience as a lab assistant (Preferred)
   - Familiarity with Astoria and/or LaChat auto-analyzers and elemental
   analyzers (Preferred)


   - Bachelor's in Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science or related
   field (Required)

·         Must be meticulous, and have a high level of problem solving
abilities.

·         Ability to work in a team environment and have good written and
oral communication skills

This position will be part-time (20 hours per week) with option of possibly
becoming full time in the near future. This position is eligible for
health, dental, life and retirement benefits as per personnel policy and
there is a probationary period of 90 days. Salary will commensurate with
experience.
