The Northeastern United States is experiencing rapid changes in its hydrology due to intense land-use change, urbanization, and climate change. Join Wildlands Trust, Living Observatory, and SEMPBA in welcoming Professor David Boutt to the Community Conservation Barn for this special presentation that will explore how small, unconfined aquifer systems respond to these hydro-climatic and land-use changes. This work highlights the importance of groundwater processes in generating streamflow, with implications for water supply, baseflow generation, climate refugia, and assessing flood risk in a changing world. Pre-lecture gathering starts at 6:30, lecture begins at 7:00 pm.
David Boutt is a professor of Hydrogeology at UMass Amherst researching groundwater deposits under the ocean and in the Atacoma Desert of Chile. Boutt was recently awarded the Birdsall-Dreiss Distinguished Lecturer for 2018, and is a founding faculty member of Living Observatory.
