History Talk at the Grange: Mick Carlon

The Nye Family Association will present the last in its 2018 series of “History Talks at the Grange” on Sunday April 8th at 2 PM. Mick Carlon, a local author and educator, will be presenting a book talk entitled: Heinz Praeger (1911-1997): Righteous Cape Codder .

In his latest published novel, “Girl Singer”, one of the main characters is based on the real life experiences of Heinz Praeger, a Holocaust survivor. Mick became a personal friend of Heinz, and over time he learned his life story including events leading up to the persecution of Jews and WWII. Mick describes Heinz as brave and resilient, and someone who inspired many on the Cape through his involvement with the community, including the Big Brother/Big Sister organization.

Mick Carlon has had three novels published and recently was awarded the Massachusetts Reading Association's 2018 Celebrate Literacy Award. He teaches English at Barnstable Intermediate School. The event is free, though donations are welcome. Coffee and cookies will be provided. Titcomb’s Bookshop will have copies of Mick’s books for purchase.

The Grange Hall is located at 91 Old County Road, East Sandwich, where it has served the community continuously since 1889. To learn about the Nye Family Association, visit: www.nyefamily.org <http://www.nyefamily.org/>
