FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

An Evening of Radio Storytelling in Woods Hole

November 16, 2017, 7:00-9:30 pm

Atlantic Public Media presents a public listening event to celebrate the creation of new audio work by nine students at this fall’s Transom Story Workshop. It will be held from 7 – 9:30 pm on Thursday, November 16th, at the Community Hall, 68 Water Street, in Woods Hole, Massachusetts. Admission is free. Seats fill quickly, so come early.

“I live here year-round,” says Workshop instructor Rob Rosenthal, “I try to keep abreast of what's happening around me. But when the Transom students arrive, I'm always surprised at what they discover about people and life in and around the Cape. Stories about rare tick diseases, fibromyalgia, a musical about aging, shark photographers, people who collect sneakers... Who knew?!”

The students arrived in Woods Hole mid-September to learn the craft of audio storytelling. They came from Minnesota, Colorado, the East Coast, Canada, and England, and range in age from their late teens to early-30s. Their stories are about local people and issues, and it’s likely that some of the subjects will be in the audience. A question and answer period will follow each piece.

Executive Director Jay Allison notes, “Our graduation/listening event is now a lovely local ritual, where we gather to hear the students’ absorbing stories that enlighten us about our own community. They come to us to learn, listen, and share, and during this evening, we share the experience of listening to what they’ve found.”

The listening event will precede a brief graduation ceremony and the public is urged to join us in applauding Transom Story Workshop’s thirteenth graduating class.

Public radio producer Jay Allison founded Atlantic Public Media <http://www.atlantic.org/> as a non-profit organization in 1993. APM founded WCAI <http://www.capeandislands.org/>, the Public Radio Exchange (PRX <http://www.prx.org/>), Transom.org <http://www.transom.org/> (the Peabody Award-winning public media website), and produces The Moth Radio Hour <http://www.themoth.org/> (also a Peabody winner). APM also crafted the popular NPR series, This I Believe <http://www.npr.org/thisibelieve>, and provides programming for WCAI, including the Sonic IDs, Creative Life and The Local Food Report.
