STRAWBERRY DAY AT THE GREEN BRIAR JAM KITCHEN

The Green Briar Nature Center hosts its Annual Strawberry Day on Saturday,
June 10 from 10am to 4pm in the historic Jam Kitchen. Sweet, fresh
strawberries are served in a homemade dessert from 11am to 2pm for a $4
donation. Old-fashioned strawberry jam making is also demonstrated for
visitors in the cheerful bright blue kitchen. Jam tasting samples of a
number of the kitchen's products are offered in the unique gift shop. The
nature center's used book sale, gallery exhibits, resident animals,
wildflower garden and walking trails offer something for all to enjoy on a
late spring day. Green Briar is located at 6 Discovery Hill Road, just off
Route 6A in East Sandwich. For further information, call 508-888-6870 or

TUESDAY TOURS IN THE WILDFLOWER GARDEN

Beginning on June 6 and continuing each Tuesday morning at 10:00am in June,
July and August, an informal guided tour of the award-winning Shirley G.
Cross Wildflower Garden at the Green Briar Nature Center is conducted by a
knowledgeable volunteer. The one-third acre garden contains over 300 plants
consisting of three zones: shaded hillside, wetlands bordering a fresh water
pond, and open meadow. The garden was conceived and designed in 1979 by Dr.
Shirley G. Cross, a longtime resident of East Sandwich. The fee of $3 for
members of the Thornton W. Burgess Society, $5 for non-members, helps to
support garden maintenance. Advance registration is not required for this
drop-in program. Green Briar is located at 6 Discovery Hill Road, just off
Route 6A in East Sandwich. For further information, call 508-888-6870 or
visit the website at <http://www.thorntonburgess.org/>
