July 21-22, 2017
Led by Dr. Kefyn Catley
Create rewarding works of art that are also useful items of scientific data by photographing insects and arthropods in their natural habitat. This two-day course will cover the biology behind each insect subject, while also providing tips on photographic techniques and artistry behind the image. Time outside "learning by doing" will be complemented by indoor sharing and post-production sessions. Our home base will be Mass Audubon's beautiful 1100-acre Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary.
This course is appropriate for advanced beginners and intermediate-level photographers who have a Digital SLR camera with a dedicated macro lens capable of 1:1 magnification ratio, and have a solid understanding of their camera's functions.
Instructor KEFYN CATLEY is a professor of biology at Western Carolina University; he holds a PhD in arthropod systematics from Cornell and was a research scientist at the American Museum of Natural History. A naturalist, photographer, and lifelong observer of tiny creatures, Kefyn encourages photographers to become citizen scientists by documenting and sharing their findings online.
