Subject: DER Culvert Replacement Municipal Assistance Grant Program--Annnouncement

Dear Stream Continuity Partners,
Tim Chorey and I are happy to announce that DER’s Culvert Replacement Municipal Assistance Grant Program RFR is finally on the street! Please see the announcement below and please forward it to any communities that you think may be interested in applying. My apologies for cross-postings, as we are distributing this announcement through a number of outlets.

Through collaboration with DEP, we were able to incorporate additional funding into the program (Nyanza Settlement funds, SuAsCo Watershed) to bring the total available to $1,050,000! We were also able to showcase the MA Wildlife Climate Action Tool, by asking applicants to use the Tool to determine their proposed culvert’s priority for replacement. Please see the RFR for details.
Thank you all very much for your input as we worked to create this grant program over the past year. If you have questions, please let us know.

--Kristen & Tim

Culvert Replacement Municipal Assistance Grant Program Announcement
The Division of Ecological Restoration (DER), Massachusetts Department of Fish and Game, is seeking proposals from Massachusetts municipalities interested in replacing an undersized, perched, and/or degraded culvert located in an area of high ecological value. A total of $1,050,000 is available through the Culvert Replacement Municipal Assistance Grant Program for selected municipalities to advance one culvert replacement project toward completion. The purpose of this funding is to encourage municipalities to replace culverts with better designed crossings that meet improved design standards and storm resiliency criteria. Only projects that intend to meet the goals of the Massachusetts Stream Crossing Standards will be considered for funding. Incorporating these Standards into culvert design will improve river function and access for fish and wildlife, and will reduce hazards to public safety, such as flooding, culvert failure, and road washout. Massachusetts municipalities are eligible to apply. Interested communities should view the full announcement, including eligibility and evaluation criteria here:
