CAPE COD LEGEND PETER PELTZ: ON EXHIBIT AT GREEN BRIAR

Cape Cod Legend Peter Peltz: The Man and His Art is the title of an exciting
new exhibit currently open to the public at the Thornton W. Burgess
Society's Green Briar Nature Center in East Sandwich. The exhibit features
the bird carvings and paintings of Mr. Peltz along with some other
memorabilia, which prove why he was a true Sandwich and Cape Cod legend.
All items are on loan from the family's extensive private collection.

Peter Peltz moved his family to Sandwich in 1952 in pursuit of an
independent life. He had innate talent in the arts and from an early age
made time to draw and paint. He carved his first bird while serving in the
Navy during WW II, and while selling Fuller Brush products his wife, Betsy,
sold his first birds from their barn on Main Street. In 1958 Peter found an
old barn in Falmouth and had it placed on Scorton Marsh in East Sandwich.
The Bird Barn was founded, as the sign on his work table indicated, "Peter
Peltz President and Founder." For over 45 years during the summer months he
sold thousands of birds, retail and by order. During the winter months he
completed the orders, never with a deposit, and received checks in the mail.

Peter was more than a bird carver. He was a raconteur, an avid historian
with an MA in History from Yale. He made life long friends and admirers
from his Bird Barn setting on Scorton Marsh. His legacy stretches from the
display of birds in the John F. Kennedy Library to the many stories from
admirers who conversed and shared time with him in the Bird Barn.

The exhibit, which runs through August, may be viewed Monday through
Saturday from 10am to 4pm and Sunday from noon to 4pm. Green Briar is
located at 6 Discovery Hill Road, just off Route 6A in East Sandwich. For
