Fly along with author Deborah Cramer and the endangered Red Knot on an epic journey from the Arctic to Plymouth to the Antarctic.

The Spire Center for the Performing Arts, 25 1/2 Court Street, Plymouth, MA, September 27, at 6:30 PM.

In her award-winning book, The Narrow Edge: A Tiny Bird, An Ancient Crab, and an Epic Journey, Gloucester resident Deborah Cramer accompanies the Red Knot on its extraordinary journey and reveals how the lives of these endangered shorebirds, the ancient horseshoe crab and the humans along its migratory route are intertwined.

The Plymouth shoreline is of particular interest to Cramer as it was once home to a thriving colony of horseshoe crabs whose eggs are an important source of food for the Red Knot as it makes its epic journey from one pole of the globe to the other.

Once the Plymouth shoreline was literally crawling with horseshoe crabs, the skies filled with migrating Red Knot.

Can the locations of those Horseshoe Crab nurseries be identified and restored?

Can a local effort have a global effect?

A reception with the author at the Spire Center for the Performing Arts begins at 6:30 PM, followed by a lecture, question and answer session and book signing.

Refreshments and cash bar provided.
