        FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
An Evening of Radio Storytelling in Woods Hole

May 25, 2016, 7:00-9:30 pm

Atlantic Public Media presents a public listening event to celebrate the creation of new audio work by nine students at this spring’s Transom Story Workshop. It will be held from 7 – 9:30 pm on Thursday, May 25th, at the Community Hall, 68 Water Street, in Woods Hole, Massachusetts. Admission is free. Seats fill quickly, so come early.

Workshop instructor Rob Rosenthal notes, “I've been asked a surprising number of times “Don't the students run out of stories to tell?” Easy. There are a good half-million people living on the Cape, Islands, and South Coast. There are always new stories to report –– from a photographer who trespasses to takes pictures inside closed mental health hospitals, to a duck carver, to a musician making an impassioned argument for the influence of Native American music in the growth of the blues. And those are only three examples of the 18 stories students produce during the workshop.

The students took up residence in Woods Hole in late March to learn the craft of audio storytelling. They arrived from the east and west coasts, Idaho, Michigan, and Canada. They range in age from the early 20s to the mid-50s. Their stories are about local people and issues, and it’s likely that some of the subjects will be in the audience. A question and answer period will follow each piece.

Executive Director Jay Allison says, “It continues to be a great experience to watch these students embrace the art and craft of storytelling, flow out into our community and return with intriguing stories that connect us to people new to us in the place where we live.”

The listening event will precede a brief graduation ceremony and the public is urged to join us in applauding Transom Story Workshop’s twelfth graduating class.
