AMERICAN FOLK ART LECTURE SERIES AT GREEN BRIAR
The Green Briar Nature Center will host a three part lecture series, An
Introduction to American Folk Art, by Art Historian Elizabeth Friend on
Thursday evenings October 20th, November 3rd and November 17th beginning at
7:00pm. These three lectures will cover the important art historical period
in America commonly called Folk Art. Each lecture will highlight
significant areas within this large genre. The first lecture is "An
Overview," which will cover many of the interesting aspects of early
American Folk Art touching on each briefly. The second lecture, "Here's
Looking at You," examines portraiture in Early American Folk Art.
"Landscapes and Scenes of Daily Life in Folk Art" is the subject of the
third lecture in the series. Each talk will be profusely illustrated with
color slides and examples from the presenter's collection. There will be
time for a question and answer period following each presentation.
Admission to each lecture is $5 for members of the Thornton W. Burgess
Society, $7 for non-members and may be paid at the door that evening. If
possible, please call 508-888-6870 to let us know you plan to attend. Green
Briar is located at 6 Discovery Hill Road, just off Route 6A in East
Sandwich.
