Please join us for a one-day workshop on important State Building Codes, environmental permitting regulations, and best practices related to building and retrofitting homes and other buildings in coastal areas. The morning workshop topics will feature a look at best practices in design of structures to better withstand storm-related impacts such as coastal erosion and flooding, and will also provide guidance for local officials on how to use and interpret FEMA flood insurance rate maps and flood studies. The afternoon sessions will focus on the State Building Code requirements in flood hazard areas, and opportunities for local conservation commission to reduce hazard vulnerability and protect 'Land Subject to Costal Storm Flowage' under the Wetlands Protection Act. The workshop will conclude with a presentation related to State and Federal funding opportunities to assist local officials plan for, and implement flood risk reduction projects. This workshop is being hosted by the State Hazard Mitigation Interagency Committee's Flood and Erosion Workgroup.
