MAKING WAVES IN COASTAL CONSERVATION ON JANUARY 30 AT 2 PM IN PLYMOUTH
A coastal stewardship and youth conservation training program for high school students is the subject of Goldenrod Foundation’s next presentation in the speaker series: Making Waves in Coastal Conservation, where experts present innovative ideas, exemplary projects and new technologies in the areas of coastal wildlife, water and habitat conservation.
On Saturday, January 30 from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. in Plymouth at Brewster Hall on Church St. (uphill from Town Square), Corrie Folsom-O’Keefe will speak about the Audubon CT WildLife Guards program that serves to educate beach visitors about the beach-nesting birds and coastal habitat, and train urban youth for possible careers in conservation biology.
This innovative and collaborative program provides job training, mentoring, and employment in bird conservation and resource management for selected Bridgeport high school students. Audubon Connecticut (Audubon CT) works in partnership with the Roger Tory Peterson Institute of Natural History and the City of Bridgeport's Department of Youth Services. The former, along with Audubon CT, provides hands-on training in bird monitoring, coastal ecology, and public outreach. The latter provides general job training.
Folsom-O’Keefe is the Important Bird Areas Program Coordinator for Audubon CT, a state office of the National Audubon Society.
Mark your calendars for future presentations in the series. All begin at 2 p.m. at Brewster Hall.
