Mass Audubon's Long Pasture Wildlife Sanctuary offers seasonal education programming for those who are curious about Cape Cod's environment.

This winter, Long Pasture is offering a two-part series on raising backyard chickens. Local author and chicken expert, Melissa Caughey, will discuss techniques for raising your own flock and the ins-and-outs of getting started. This spring, get into gardening with your backyard flock. Topics to be covered include garden planning and design, a discussion about chicken-safe plantings including vegetables, fruits and perennials. The talk will also cover utilizing chickens in the garden, basic composting, garden care during the growing season, preventing damage from the flock and how to enjoy the harvest with your family and chickens.
