FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

An Evening of Radio Storytelling in Woods Hole

May 26, 2016, 7:00-9:30 pm

Atlantic Public Media presents a public listening event to celebrate the creation of new audio work by nine students at this spring’s Transom Story Workshop. It will be held from 7 – 9:30 pm on Thursday, May 26th, at the Community Hall, 68 Water Street, in Woods Hole, Massachusetts. Admission is free. Seats fill quickly, so come early to ensure you get one.

Executive Director Jay Allison says, “It's always great to see the community turn out for this event –– to discover what the students have discovered, to meet the people they've met. We learn about where we live through their experience.”

The students took up residence in Woods Hole in early April to learn the craft of audio storytelling. They arrived from California and Wyoming, and various Midwestern and Eastern states –– among them is a student originally from Somalia, now a resident of Maine. They range in age from the early 20s to 40. Their stories are about local people and issues, and hopefully some of the subjects will be in the audience. A question and answer period will follow each piece.

Workshop instructor Rob Rosenthal, “Right out of the gate this group of students found stories about a bonsai tree enthusiast in Barnstable and a perfumier in Osterville. Just when I think we might start running out, the students discover surprising people and stories all across the Cape, Islands, and South Coast.”

The listening event will precede a brief graduation ceremony and the public is urged to join us in applauding Transom Story Workshop’s tenth graduating class.

Public radio producer Jay Allison founded Atlantic Public Media <http://www.atlantic.org/> as a non-profit organization in 1993.
