Best Place to See Aquatic Life
We're jumping for joy! Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary was voted Best 
Place to See Aquatic Life in USA Today's latest 10-Best Reader's Choice travel awards
contest.  The sanctuary's popularity as a world-renowned whale watching site generated
support from a wide ranging voting public.   The consistent sightings and active
 behaviors of some of the largest animals on the planet make an ocean safari to 
Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary a trip to remember.
In addition to great whales, the sanctuary is an ideal location to view Atlantic
 white-sided dolphins, numerous seabirds and the unusual ocean sunfish or massive
basking shark. Other possible sightings include harbor porpoise, harbor and gray
 seals, schools of sand lance and juvenile bluefin tuna.
But whales are the prime draw, and an active whale watching industry, with Provincetown,
Barnstable, Plymouth, Boston, Gloucester and Newburyport providing convenient departure
points along the Massachusetts coast. Most trips take about half a day and give 
viewers an opportunity to watch wildlife in its natural setting.  The whales come
to Stellwagen Bank to feed, so a trip into the sanctuary usually results in exciting
displays of bubble net feeding (where humpback whales blow a ring of bubbles to 
surround and confuse their prey and then rise up through their net) or swift lunges
along the surface to scoop up masses of fish.

Student marine art exhibit moves
The traveling marine art exhibit, featuring winning entries from the 2015 Massachusetts
Marine Educators annual contest, has moved to the Cape Cod National Seashore's Salt
Pond Visitor Center in Eastham.  It will reside there through the month of April.

The deadline is quickly approaching. The annual marine art contest for students 
in grades K-12, sponsored by Massachusetts Marine Educators and featuring species
