Training begins May 5th in Plymouth for Beach Ambassador Volunteers
Energetic and personable nature-lovers are sought by Goldenrod Foundation for its volunteer corps, the Beach Ambassadors. Throughout the summer, volunteers run an osprey viewing station at Nelson Park in Plymouth and lead nature discovery activities at outdoor festivals. Some also count herring, test water quality, lead birding trips, or design programs to teach about ecology and conservation.
Training starts May 5th and consists of four Thursday evening classroom sessions and two field trips to learn about coastal wildlife and natural processes, such as barrier beach dynamics.
Following training, new volunteers are paired with experienced ones for some “on-the-job” training, which might involve showing park visitors Osprey on their nest, collecting data on Osprey behavior, displaying Nature’s Treasure Chest, talking about shells, playing games, reading books about the beach, and much more.
Volunteer and internship opportunities are also available for youth and young adults this summer. Interested individuals should apply now. For an application and more information, visit: www.goldenrod.org/blog or email Dorie Stolley, Program Manager at dss at goldenrod.org.
